This article aims to analyze the dangers posed by cosmic impacts from Near-Earth Objects (NEOs) and the limited attention that the international community has devoted to this issue. It will then examine the planetary defense techniques currently available to address such impacts, assessing their compliance with international law, with particular attention to space law as lex specialis in this field. Furthermore, it will explore the destabilizing effects these impacts may have on international peace and security. In this context, special emphasis will be placed on the essential role that the Security Council should play in effectively addressing these cosmic phenomena.
