Presented in December 2019, the European Green Deal is the European Union's current global growth strategy. With the goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050, it has launched a process through which sustainability is becoming a mainstream objective across all European policies. However, from the beginning, it has had to face a complex context for various reasons: the crisis generated by the COVID-19 pandemic, the worsening conflict in Ukraine because of the invasion by Russia, and the rise of populist movements opposed to the European integration process and the green agenda. This paper analyses the development of the European Green Deal in such a complicated context, exploring the strategies, programs, and legislative acts adopted since its entry into force, to determine whether obstacles have limited its evolution and progress.
