The Role of the Organization for Security and Co-Operation In Europe (OSCE) in the Ukraine’s Crisis: Special Monitoring Mission of International Observers

Abstract

The conflict in Ukraine is of a great complexity and hard to solve. Only, through a dialogue and an agreement between Russia and Ukraine would it be possible to resolve the dispute, also taking into account the interests of other actors such as the United States and the European Union. Efforts from International Organizations are insufficient to overcome every single issue raised by this type of conflict. However, the OSCE seems the Organization best suited to tackle some of these situations and limiting the effects of a widespread and stalling conflict. The safeguard and respect of Human Rights are areas of priority for the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine and it seems to have awakened the Organization from its lethargy. The results of mediation, verification and pacification are limited but, they are not irrelevant.
